The Reunion of Champions!

Well......the long anticipated day is over! For months now we have been talking about 'The Reunion of Champions'. The memories revisted, the legends of Allegany Football that we have only heard of. We shared the memories, we met the legends, now the memories will linger in our minds forever.

To start the day off, we prayed for the rain to pass us by... and it did. What a beautiful day it turned out to be. Our game at the stadium against Grande Prairie was one more win we could count towards our 600 wins. The people of Grande Prairie Composite were great people. The game ended in a final score of 70-13 with the traveling team graciously losing to the Allegany Campers. They were led to Allegany High School where they were able to shower, change, and settle down to a quick meal provided by the Gridiron Club. They may have lost the football game but they won the award for being the most well mannered team to ever grace our field. The  Allegany Gridiron Club would like to extend our thanks to Grande Prairie for coming to our town. Thank you again Grande Prairie!
So.....back to our event! The Gridiron Club learned some important things for the next 'Reunion of Champions'. Things went well, we accomplished what we wanted to do. We reminisced with old friends, met new ones, and raised money to support the future of Allegany Football.
We would like to thank Mr. Jim Gaffney, Mr. Wes Abrams. Mr. Earle Bruce, Mr. Olin Yoder,  Bob Gaffney, Kevin & Jack Sellers, John Lange, Grant Davis, Bob Harvey, Jim Bowman,  and the countless others who attended our event. We hope that you had a great time and a safe trip home.

The Allegany Gridiron Club is pleased to present a celebration of Allegany Football! This event is one of a kind and one the City of Cumberland will remember for a long time. We will have the, 'cream of the crop',  representing Allegany High School.  Click on the event tab to see a list of players and coaches coming to Town Centre on September 11, 2009.  For those of you who are not familiar with Town Centre, that is just a new fangled name for Baltimore Street in Cumberland!  We will be set up on the mall from George Street to Centre Street. For all of you who have been away for awhile....thats from the old GC Murphy to the corner where Peoples Drug used to be. It will be decorated with so much blue and white it will take your breath away. We will start the celebration soon after the football game with Grand Prairie Composite from Canada. For all of those wishing to come to the game, it starts at 1pm at Greenway Avenue Stadium. Students pre-purchasing a ticket will be permitted to leave the school to attend the game.
In the food catagorie......Alhambra will be fixing their great Italian Sausage and Chicken Sandwiches.  We will serve beer, wine, sodas and bottled water.  The Creamery will honor this event with a special flavor for Allegany High School. Bet that will be delicious!   Kettle corn will be popped fresh that night. Can't wait to smell that!  You don't want to miss this! Chinese Bandits will be playing that great music we all love, further down the mall for all to enjoy.
We will have two DVD's available for purchase. One will highlight actual game footage from various Turkey Day's ranging in years from 1948 to present. (TurkeyDay for all of us pre 75 Campers...Homecoming...for all you young Campers), and the other one will be a still photo collection of Allegany Football 1917-2010. Either one of these DVD's will be a great addition to your Allegany Memorabilia.

In honor of our soon to be 600 wins... the entrance fee will be $6.00. This includes a commemorative stadium cup filled once with your choice of beverage.  We are holding a raffle that evening and the winner will win an autographed jersey of coaches and players attending that night. This is truely a once in a lifetime souvenir! Just think of it, Bruce, the Gaffney's, Daum, Darr, Kreiger and the list goes on. What a wonderful addition to your collection!
We ask you to remember this is a fundraiser for the Gridiron Club. This money helps support our team with the items the school board can't supply. We work very closely with the coaching staff to provide things such as equipment bags, uniforms, drinks, pre-game meals, end of the season banquet, trophies, training equipment..... the list goes on. So come out meet the stars of Allegany Football, and know that you are helping support the stars of tomorrow.

After all due consideration, the Gridiron Club had to revisit the decision of entrance fee for players.  We are working hard to honor every one who chose to wear the blue and white, and have incurred much expense.  Our main concern when starting this project was to raise money for the current team. We received feedback from individuals, including players, who believed it was wrong not to charge everyone for an entrance fee, and also wanted to contribute to 'the boys' fund as well. So the Gridiron Club decided to make the entrance fee applicable to everyone. The Gridiron Club apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Please plan to be a part of this historical event. You won't be sorry!  For any questions, call........Teresa 301 707-2711 or Terri  301 876-1644.

WELCOME TO THE ALLEGANY GRIDIRON CLUB

"THE GRIDIRON CLUB

The Allegany Grid Iron Club welcomes you to their web site.  This club's main purpose is to support the Allegany Football team.  With that it takes lots of work and support from people like you, the fan, the parent, or anyone else that is interested in supporting the most winning high school football program in the State of Maryland.

The Grid Iron Club is the cog behind the wheel of fund raising and support for the football team and its activities.  We need your help with all our activities and fund raising throughout the year.  We welcome you, your ideas, and suggestions, to help with our passion, making this program the best it can be.  Our dues are only $5.00 per year, but the rewards are priceless.

We provide meals for the boys, equipment, championship rings or jerseys, end of the year banquet, great Allegany merchandise at the Gridiron Booth, the Big A at the stadium, the best weekly football program in the area, homecoming decorations, and our newest addition....the 25 ft Indian tee-pee, complete with spear and smoke barreling out the top!

So come on out and help us out.  You won't regret it!

You say you love Allegany Football and have some extra time!

Allegany Gridiron wants you in our 'family'. There are many things to do!

  • Help Fundraise
  • Make Decisions
  • Decorate for Games
  • Work the Gridiron Booth

Yes......there is alot of work to do! Any successful organization will have plenty of it. These days many families don't have the luxury of a stay-at-home-mom. Parents have jobs, and other children to split there time between, many don't have extra time to volunteer.  If you are a grandparent, uncle, aunt, alumni or just a supporter of Allegany.......then we want you!  You don't have to have a link to football....just the love and dedication and drive - to make things better. When you get involved with these kids,  you get to know a side of them that you wouldn't necessarily see. Our boys are great!  On and off the field.....you will see them grow into fine young men over the years. So....come to the next meeting or come volunteer at an event! We would love to see you there.
